http://www.amazon.com/Color-Style-Fashion About David Zyla: David Zyla has been a pioneer of authentic style on the runway, television, and Broadway for twenty years. His belief that style comes from the unique spirit and “style DNA” of each individual stands alone in a fashion world that trends and one-size-fits-all dos and don’ts. Zyla’s rare gift for creating an outward style that reflects an individual’s personality was developed at an early age. “When I was only five, my parents would ask for my opinion on what to wear whenever they had a special event.” This later developed into a philosophy that has given him the opportunity to help thousands of people discover their authentic style and make a mark in all areas of the fashion and design world. At age 22, Zyla started his own Seventh Avenue fashion label. The cutting-edge designs of the international Zyla label were featured at New York’s Fashion Week and sold at the nation’s chicest stores, including Bergdorf Goodman and Henri Bendel. Seven years later, Zyla was invited to design the wardrobe for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton’s trip to Asia. Zyla was then courted to bring his reputation as an edgy designer with strong ties to the global fashion community to ABC, spearheading the producers’ efforts to reinvigorate the visual quality of daytime television. Since 2001, Zyla has held the position of head costume designer for General Hospital, Port Charles, and currently All My Children for which he received the 2010 Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design Emmy® Award. Previously he received four nominations. His current work on All My Children generates more viewer mail than any other daytime drama in history. For twenty years, Zyla has also designed shows for Broadway and regional theatre productions, as well as commercials and film. His work includes the Broadway hit, Big River, for which he also designed the Mark Taper Forum production and the international tour; the Ahmanson Theatre’s production of Sweeney Todd, starring Kelsey Grammer and Christine Baranski; and the film Nice Guys Sleep Alone. His work on off-Broadway’s Clue: The Musical inspired the first New York Times theater review ever to spotlight a show’s costumes in the first sentence, “The costumes are fabulous.”
Zyla’s unique eye for authentic style
makes him a frequently sought-after fashion expert. He has been featured
on such programs as, The View, The Jane Pauley Show, CNN Style, and
regular segments on SoapNet. His work has been featured in Cosmopolitan,
Women’s Wear Daily, Brides Magazine, Good Housekeeping, and the Los
Angeles Times. His first book The Color of Style was published by
Dutton on February 4, 2010.
